San Diego Museum of Art: Jazz Residency: Mark Dresser Quartet

Mark DresserOnTour

Mark Dresser QuartetDenman Maroney-hyperpiano, Kjell Nordeson-drums, David Boroff -violin, and bassist/
composer Mark Dresser.
Mark Dresser, the internationally renowned improviser, performer, and composer has created music that is a personal approach to the jazz tradition: beauty of melody, counterpoint, harmony, swing, rhythmic invention and sometimes cyclical form. In addition, the music seeks to integrate the blurring of boundaries between pitch and noise, meter and texture, form and feeling. Ultimately it is the collaborative and improvisational power of the band that ultimately shapes the music. Tonight’s ensemble features Denman Maroney, a pioneer of the piano Kjell Nordeson, a celebrated improvising drummer and percussionist from Sweden, and the gifted young violinist, David Boroff who is playing his final San Diego appearance before departing to Boston on full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music.
